Slim Whitman Yodels Gershwin
04-26-2003

Several car manufacturers sent out announcements this week discouraging the use of stick-on labels with home-made CDs.

The problem is blistering summer temperatures in cars can cause the label-adhesive to dry out, fall off, and get wedged in the CD player -- which, by the way, gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "jammin'. Yes, Mr. Modem knows all the groovy hep talk.

If you burn your own CDs, you can purchase a CD printer and make your own printed labels for approximately $500. As an alternative, you could hit yourself in the head with a hammer and try to knock some sense into yourself for even thinking about spending $500 to make CD labels.

Look, CDs cost less than a dollar when purchased in bulk. If you need to label your "Abba's Greatest Hits" or "Slim Whitman Yodels Gershwin" CDs, forget about paper labels and expensive printers. All you need to do is invest in a 79-cent "Sharpie" felt-tip marker and start labeling!

If you don't know where to buy one, you can check out the Pre-Installed Linux Vendor Database. The database lets you filter on laptops or desktops, and you can see what city the vendor is in.
